About Trophy Club, TX
Trophy Club is a small, affluent suburb located in Denton and Tarrant Counties. The vision of Trophy Club was born in the 1970’s when attorney John McMackin convinced golf legend Ben Hogan to design a golf course and two-story clubhouse that would house his championship trophies (hence the name Trophy Club). In 1972, Ben Hogan McMackin’s law firm purchased 2500 acres of land for the project. Hogan pulled out of the project after failing to receive financing to build his clubhouse.
After disputes with an unpopular Westlake master planning organization, the citizens of Trophy Club incorporated into an independent town in 1985. A second 18-hole golf course, named for retired LPGA golfer Kathy Whitworth, was built. (In an ironic twist, her trophy collection is now housed at the club.) Trophy Club continued to grow throughout the 1990’s and 2000’s, adding many parks, a fishing dock, and Byron Nelson High School.
Today, Trophy Club has over 12,000 citizens. The average age in Trophy Club is slightly higher than the state average, and the median household income is about $150,000, making it one of the more upscale communities in Dallas-Fort Worth. With 1,000 acres of parks and two massively popular golf courses, it’s a great destination for golfers and nature lovers.
